WoChin app for iPhone and iPad

This app is designed to help Chinese campers at a beginner level. The topics covered in each unit are commonly used in leading introductory Chinese textbooks. Therefore, the app is suitable for Chinese language learners at a beginner level, regardless of their textbooks. Only simplified Chinese characters and pinyin Romanization are provided. This app does not cover traditional Chinese characters or other Romanization systems in the app.

Reading and writing skills are important, and character writing is critical to obtain these two skills. Due to the extraordinary difference between Chinese writing and English orthography, Chinese characters can be the most challenging task for American learners. We have seen many learners postpone character learning, never really picking it up again. We have also seen that some learners completely give up their learning due to this challenge. This app aims to simplify the tedious Chinese character learning process by offering several key features together: animated character writing by demonstrating stroke orders for each character; flashcard content for each character including pronunciation in pinyin, English equivalence, two samples words, and a sample sentences that are suitable for beginner-level Chinese learners. The sample words and sentence can help learners establish a vocabulary network and build their confidence that Chinese writing is not as challengjng as they thought. The app also allows users to track the characters on their devices.
